Award Winning Watercolor Painting, Watercolor Society of Oregon Show

I had a great time at the Watercolor Society of Oregon Convention this weekend with my husband and I’m so excited to announce that my watercolor painting, Steel Bridge, Portland was awarded the Fourth Place Award! And if that isn’t enough good news, the painting sold yesterday! Stephen Quiller was the juror for the show.

I mentioned last week that one of my duties as WSO Vice President is to assist Stephen Quiller while he’s selecting the top 20 award winning paintings. When I arrived at the gallery, our convention consultant said that my painting was in contention, so guess who got to wait outside? Not that I was complaining, haha! I was happy to be in the top 20 as the watercolor show is very strong, so I was thrilled to receive fourth.

The weekend was a lot of fun. All the events were well organized and the attendance was amazing! Of course the Oregon Coast was beautiful. My husband and I had a room on the third floor and we had a little balcony overlooking the beach and the ocean.

During the weekend, several paint outs took place as well as a few indoor painting sessions. I did a small watercolor painting from my balcony. Stephen presented two critique sessions. I attended one of the sessions and it was very interesting and educational to hear his advice for improving the paintings. I also attended the opening reception where the award winning paintings were announced and the awards banquet. Then after the business meeting on Sunday morning,  Stephen gave a great demonstration. It was a weekend full of fun and inspiration.

The Watercolor Society of Oregon Show continues through the month at the Manley Art Center in Brookings, OR. Then the top 20 watercolor paintings will travel around the state of Oregon for the next six months. I’ll post a schedule soon.
